Our story · قصتنا

Balance, poured slowly.

A café in Riyadh where specialty coffee and matcha sit side by side, and every guest is welcomed the way we were raised to welcome guests.

ميزان
noun · Arabic
a scale; balance; measure.

What Mizan means

We named the café after a scale because that is what a good cup asks of you: balance. Between bitter and sweet. Between old rituals and new ones. Between a quick coffee and an afternoon that slips away.

01 ·Coffee craftsmanship

The thirty seconds that matter.

Every morning starts the same way: the grinder warms, the first shots are pulled, and we taste. Grind a little finer, dose a little higher, taste again — until the espresso is sweet, round and clean.

02 ·Matcha culture

A ritual borrowed with respect.

Matcha reached us through admiration for the Japanese tea tradition — its stillness and its care for small gestures. We sift every serving, use water below boiling, and whisk until the surface turns to fine foam.

03 ·Ingredient philosophy

Fewer things, chosen well.

A short menu done properly. Fresh milk, filtered water, pastry laminated in-house, syrups we make ourselves, and dates and saffron that belong to this region’s table. When something is in season, it shows up.

04 ·The café experience

Hospitality is the point.

In Saudi homes a guest is greeted with coffee and dates before anything else is said. That is the feeling we built Mizan around — a room where you are welcomed, not processed. There is always another cup.

From bean to cup

Four steps, no shortcuts.

Every drink passes through the same four hands-on stages, whether it’s a shot of espresso or a bowl of matcha.

  1. 01

    Taste

Each new coffee is cupped side by side before it earns a place on the bar.

  2. 02

    Dial in

Grind, dose and time are adjusted every morning as the beans rest and change.

  3. 03

    Prepare

Espresso pulled, matcha sifted and whisked, milk steamed to silk — all to order.

  4. 04

    Serve

Delivered to your table with a glass of water, and a date if you’d like one.
